An interview from the 2023 NAB Show in New York City with Tom Levis at the Panasonic Connect Booth. Established on April 1, 2022 as part of the Panasonic Group’s switch to an operating company system, Panasonic Connect North America is a B2B company offering device hardware, software and professional services to provide value to customers across the public sector, federal government, education, immersive entertainment, food services and manufacturing industries.

At NAB New York, Panasonic Connect showcased its full ST 2110 workflow from its KAIROS live production platform to its studio and PTZ cameras. Supporting ST 2110 integration for the AK studio camera line, the company will debut its new UCU700 Camera Control Unit geared to help customers migrate to IP-based systems. The pressure to captivate and retain viewers is extremely prevalent for broadcast and sports production teams — areas in which delivering high quality content is a must. The right tools can serve as the backbone for any production team, leaving room for creativity to soar.

KAIROS is a unique and powerful live production platform designed with creative independence in mind. With KAIROS, AV technicians have unlimited options for orchestrating dynamic content that interests, excites, and engages employees, customers and shareholders

Flexible and scalable, KAIROS is an open-architecture platform that relies on software to add as many linkages to sources and external devices as your creative vision demands. Because it’s equipment-agnostic, you can integrate it seamlessly into your existing AV solutions. This means you never have to worry about interoperability with other manufacturer’s hardware, making KAIROS easy to add to your current system with room to grow as your video-processing needs expand.

Add the KAIROS KC200 Core Flagship Mainframe from Panasonic to your control room for a flexible and scalable cloud-based video broadcast workflow for events, sports, and remote streaming. The 4 RU chassis runs the KAIROS system that provides a variety of input and output processing options including HDMI, SDI, and NDI, and it provides encoding and playback via its ST 2022-7 redundant 1GB network ports.

Updated features include agile input routing for a wide range of input sources using flexible GPU I/O bandwidth allocation. The resolution-independent platform supports video up to 4K, and different resolutions and formats can be mixed for input and output. The chassis also features built-in redundant power supplies to ensure continuous uptime.

The AK-UCU700 CCU supports the next-generation SMPTE ST 2110*2 IP-transmission standard as well as JPEG-XS to uncompress/compress 4K video by a factor of 10 without degrading quality. As the industry's first*1 studio camera system to support the Dante®*3 network audio standard as well as the NDI® (High Bandwidth NDI®) and SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) IP transmission standards, Panasonic Connect's new CCU realizes diverse networks and applications for IP studio camera systems.

The AW-UR100 uses a 1/2.5" UHD 4K MOS sensor to output clear video up to UHD 4K60. The IP65-rated camera stands up to the elements with its salt-resistant silver finish and built-in wiper, heater, and defroster. Three stabilization functions help keep images captured with the 24x optical zoom lens smooth, even when mounted in windy environments. It also features a 10x digital zoom to extend your range even further.

Video is output via 3G-SDI, 12G-SDI, and SFP+ optical fiber connections. The camera supports IP protocols like NDI, SRT, and RTMP. A genlock input supports black burst sync and tri-level synchronization, while a D-Sub 9-pin connector offers an audio input. Power the AW-UR100 using PoE++ or via a separately available power supply. Control can be achieved via IP or RS-422 connections or with the integration of separately available remote camera controller units.

The AV-HSW10 3G-SDI/NDI/HDMI 1080p Compact Live Switcher from Panasonic provides broadcast-quality video in a compact chassis. It provides you with four 3G-SDI and two HDMI inputs which output to two 3G-SDI and one HDMI port for local video distribution. Connect an IP-enabled PTZ to the LAN terminal and unlock IP streaming with one 3G-SDI and one HDMI input with corresponding output ports while adding one NDI streaming input.
